A young woman pursuing her postgraduate studies was found severely injured and lying in a pool of blood near a roadside shelter in Burla’s Metakani area on Wednesday afternoon. Passersby alerted the police, who rushed to the scene and immediately took her to the casualty ward at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla.
What Happened?
According to preliminary reports, the victim is a final-year postgraduate student at Sambalpur University and a resident of Burla. Witnesses and initial investigations revealed that she had suffered serious head injuries and was bleeding profusely when she was found.
Authorities believe the attack occurred after she was traveling with a group of 10 to 12 individuals in two auto-rickshaws. When the group got off in the Metakani area, the situation took a violent turn, and she was brutally assaulted on the roadside.
How the Attack Unfolded
Police sources indicate that one of the attackers struck her on the head with a stone, causing severe bleeding. After the assault, the attackers quickly fled towards Sambalpur in the same auto-rickshaws they had arrived in.
Police Investigation and Response
As of now, the motive behind the attack remains unclear. However, investigators have managed to identify the two auto-rickshaws involved using CCTV footage and are working to track down the suspects. No arrests have been made yet, but the police have assured that they are making progress in the case.
Officers have also been gathering information from the victim’s university and other relevant sources. They emphasized that efforts are underway to bring those responsible to justice.
