Rourkela: A peaceful evening turned chaotic near the Bisra police station in Rourkela when a robbery attempt at a roadside dhaba (a small eatery) escalated into a violent shootout.
What Happened?
According to reports, a group of six to seven armed men stormed into a dhaba late in the evening with the intention of looting money. The gang carried guns and knives and created panic among staff and customers.
During the robbery, the dhaba owner tried to intervene and was shot in the leg by the assailants. Locals quickly alerted the police.
Police Respond Swiftly
Officers from the nearby Bisra police station rushed to the spot within minutes. As the robbers tried to escape, a confrontation broke out between them and the police. The criminals allegedly opened fire on the police, leading to a gunfight.
In the exchange of bullets, two of the attackers were injured. The police successfully overpowered and arrested them. Both injured men were taken to the Rourkela Government Hospital and are currently undergoing treatment.
Search for the Remaining Robbers
The police have launched a full-scale investigation into the robbery attempt and are actively hunting down the remaining suspects who managed to flee during the chaos.
Authorities are also gathering CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts, and technical evidence to trace the gang’s movements.

The owner of the dhaba, who suffered a gunshot wound to his leg, is reported to be in stable condition and receiving medical care. His quick action and the rapid police response may have prevented a far more tragic outcome.
