On Friday, a brief moment of panic unfolded at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar when a suspicious bag was found unattended inside the terminal. The sight of an unclaimed bag immediately set off airport security protocols, raising fears of a possible bomb threat.
How the Incident Unfolded?
The drama began when airport staff noticed the unattended bag lying in a public area of the terminal. Without taking any chances, they quickly informed the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is in charge of airport security.
The CISF acted swiftly—they evacuated people from the area and sealed it off to prevent any possible harm. Within minutes, a Bomb Disposal Squad and a Dog Squad were called in to inspect the bag carefully.
Security Checks Conducted Thoroughly
Using specialized tools and sniffer dogs, the bomb squad checked the bag for any explosive materials or other dangerous items. Given the high number of people in the airport, the security team handled the situation with extreme caution to avoid any risk.
Even though no bomb was found, the airport authorities reminded all passengers to stay alert and immediately report any suspicious luggage or activity they may notice. They also requested that flyers cooperate with security personnel and be patient in case of temporary delays.
Operations Mostly Unaffected
Thanks to the quick and organized response from airport security, there was only a minor disruption in the affected area. Flights and other services in the rest of the airport continued as usual.
The Bag’s Owner Found
Later in the day, the mystery was solved. The bag belonged to a woman from Hyderabad who had landed in Bhubaneswar. She had mistakenly left it behind in the terminal. When she realized it, she came back to the airport to claim it. The bag contained harmless items like baby diapers and a mobile phone charger.
Airport officials verified her identity and travel history before handing over the bag to one of her relatives.
