Bhubaneswar to Become the Next IT Hub with Rs 408 Crore Investment

Bhubaneswar is on the brink of a major transformation as the Odisha government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, unveils an ambitious plan to turn the capital city into a thriving IT hub. With a massive budget allocation of Rs 408 crore, the state aims to create a futuristic urban space inspired by Hyderabad’s success in the technology sector.

A New Satellite City to Redefine Bhubaneswar

As part of this grand vision, the government will develop a brand-new satellite city spanning 322 hectares within Bhubaneswar. This initiative aims to enhance infrastructure, attract IT investments, and generate employment opportunities. The city will feature state-of-the-art amenities, ensuring seamless connectivity and economic growth.

The administration also prioritizes the swift execution of the Bhubaneswar Metro project. To tackle traffic congestion, officials plan to build a new ring road, further improving urban mobility.

Transforming Odisha’s Cities into Economic Powerhouses

Beyond Bhubaneswar, the state government has allocated Rs 1,100 crore to transform 15 cities into economic hubs. This includes five tri-city clusters designed to boost trade, commerce, and infrastructure. The identified urban corridors include:

  • Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Puri
  • Sambalpur-Jharsuguda-Baragarh
  • Jeypore-Sunabeda-Koraput
  • Chatrapur-Brahmapur-Gopalpur
  • Keonjhar-Badbil-Joda

These regions will experience significant improvements in logistics, higher education, medical services, and tourism circuits. By strengthening these key areas, the government aims to create dynamic economic zones across the state.

What CM Mohan Majhi Says About the Project

“Our vision is to make Bhubaneswar an IT and economic powerhouse. We have already identified land for the new city, and developments like metro connectivity and ring roads will significantly enhance infrastructure. This initiative will generate employment and improve the quality of life for residents,” said CM Mohan Majhi.

He also emphasized that other cities in Odisha will undergo similar development, ensuring balanced urbanization and economic growth across the state.

Focus on Infrastructure & Flood Management

To address urban challenges like flooding and drainage issues, the Housing & Urban Development Ministry has signed an MoU worth Rs 8 crore. This project will tackle waterlogging problems and improve urban planning. Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra assured that all new urban developments will include essential facilities like parks, proper sewage systems, and modern road networks.

A Bright Future for Odisha’s Urban Development

With these ambitious projects, Odisha is setting the stage for a modern and economically robust future. Bhubaneswar’s transformation into an IT hub, alongside strategic urban expansions, marks a new era of growth and opportunity for the state. The investment in infrastructure, technology, and economy promises a vibrant and progressive Odisha in the coming years.
