Odisha CM Launches Trauma Care at Keonjhar Medical College: A Step Toward Safer Roads and Stronger Healthcare

Published On:

On the birth anniversary of legendary freedom fighter Dharanidhar Nayak, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi unveiled a major health milestone for Keonjhar district. He officially launched inpatient and trauma care services at Dharanidhar Medical College and Hospital—a move that could prove life-saving in a region plagued by frequent road accidents.

Why Trauma Care Matters for Keonjhar

Keonjhar isn’t just a quiet town—it’s a bustling hub for mining operations and heavy vehicle movement, which unfortunately means a higher risk of accidents and road fatalities. CM Majhi acknowledged this harsh reality and emphasized the need for dedicated trauma care facilities to respond quickly to emergencies and reduce preventable deaths.

“As traffic continues to rise due to new industries and infrastructure projects, trauma care will be critical for saving lives,” Majhi said during the launch event.

This new trauma unit will offer 24/7 emergency medical services, significantly improving the district’s ability to handle serious injuries and accident cases.

A Bigger Plan for Odisha’s Health System

The trauma care center in Keonjhar is just the beginning. CM Majhi shared that his government has already planned similar facilities across all mining-dominated districts in Odisha. The goal? To make specialized emergency care accessible statewide, especially in high-risk zones.

In addition to trauma units, the government is also working on strengthening hospital infrastructure, hiring more doctors and healthcare workers, and upgrading facilities in rural and urban areas alike.

Coming Soon: 4 New Medical Colleges

Odisha will also soon get four brand-new government medical colleges in the districts of:

  • Bhadrak
  • Jagatsinghpur
  • Dhenkanal
  • Nabarangpur

This expansion is part of a broader mission to boost healthcare access, create local job opportunities, and address the shortage of medical professionals.

Boosting Law & Order: New Police Infrastructure in Keonjhar

CM Majhi’s visit wasn’t just about health. He also turned the spotlight on law and order by inaugurating two major police facilities:

  • A new Keonjhar Town police station building, built at ₹3.34 crore
  • A reserve police office building, built at ₹2.76 crore

Along with these upgrades, he flagged off 17 SUVs and 80 motorcycles to enhance police mobility in the district, ensuring quicker response times and stronger law enforcement presence.

Big Plans for Police Recruitment

Odisha is gearing up for a massive recruitment drive in the police department:

  • 16,000 existing vacancies are being filled
  • 16,000 new posts have been created

That’s 32,000 police jobs on the horizon—part of the state’s broader vision for safer communities and improved administrative efficiency.

With trauma care, new hospitals, better policing infrastructure, and large-scale recruitment on the cards, Odisha’s development blueprint is gaining serious momentum. CM Majhi’s approach shows a strong focus on people-centric governance, where health, safety, and opportunity take center stage.
