A tragic incident has shocked the KIIT University community in Bhubaneswar after Prisha Shah, a first-year student, was found dead in her hostel room. Her post-mortem examination is scheduled for Saturday at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where her body is currently being kept.
Family Identifies Body
Prisha’s family members, who arrived in Bhubaneswar soon after the incident, confirmed her identity on Friday. The family was reportedly in shock, especially since they had spoken to Prisha recently and found nothing unusual in her behavior.
Police Launch Investigation
Police are actively probing the incident to determine what led to Prisha’s death. Officers are examining all possible angles—whether it was suicide, foul play, or any other cause.
The post-mortem report is expected to provide critical insights and could help investigators understand the exact cause and time of death. For now, they are speaking with hostel staff, university officials, and students who knew her.
Community Outrage and Demands for Accountability
Prisha’s death has sparked widespread concern, especially among the Nepalese community in India, as she was a citizen of Nepal. Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Nepali Ekta Samaj Committee, which represents Nepalese people living in India, are speaking out about the tragedy.
“This isn’t just about one student or one community,” said Kaushalya Parihar, a member of the committee. “Whether someone is from Nepal, Odisha, London, or anywhere—this kind of tragedy should never happen again. We want justice, not just for Prisha but to ensure safety for every student.”
Another community leader, Giriraj, expressed deep disappointment with the university’s safety standards:
“Students come here with dreams and hopes,” he said. “But when incidents like this happen repeatedly, it shows that there’s a serious lack of security. Whether it’s a Nepali, Bengali, or Odia student—everyone deserves to feel safe. We want the university to take responsibility.”
Rising Concerns Over Student Safety
This case is not isolated. In recent months, other student deaths have also been reported from the same university, raising serious concerns about campus safety and mental health support systems.
Students, parents, and communities are now demanding stronger safety measures, better counseling services, and transparent investigations in such cases.
