Illegal Immigration Network Under Scrutiny After 10 Bangladeshis Held in Bhubaneswar

Published On:

The recent arrest of 10 Bangladeshi nationals in Bhubaneswar has raised serious concerns about a potential large-scale infiltration network operating in Odisha. The Commissionerate Police has launched a detailed investigation to determine how these individuals entered India, who helped them cross the border, and whether they had made previous visits to the country.

How the Arrests Happened

A special team conducted a raid after receiving intelligence about unauthorized migrants. Among the detained individuals were three women and a minor. Since none of them could provide valid travel documents like passports or visas, they were arrested under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act.

“They entered India illegally. After verifying the information, our team raided the location and detained them. As they lacked valid documents, they were arrested and presented before the court,” said STF DIG Pinak Mishra.

Key Focus Areas of the Investigation

Authorities are working to piece together the details of this case, including:

  • The exact route they took to enter India.
  • Who facilitated their movement across the border.
  • Whether they had visited India before.
  • The possibility of an organized infiltration racket operating in the region.

“We have gathered some crucial information and are coordinating with other agencies for a broader investigation,” Mishra added.

Arrest at Bhubaneswar Railway Station

The Special Task Force (STF) made the arrests at Bhubaneswar Railway Station while the group was traveling on the Dibrugarh-Chennai Express from Bengaluru. Authorities confirmed that they had entered India through Assam without valid documentation.

Seized Items and Further Investigation

During the operation, the police confiscated seven mobile phones, along with Bangladeshi and Indian currency. Officials are now investigating whether they had local contacts assisting them with accommodation and travel.

Growing Concern Over Illegal Immigration

This incident has once again highlighted the security risks associated with unauthorized cross-border movement. Authorities are stepping up efforts to track down individuals involved in facilitating illegal immigration, ensuring strict legal action against those responsible.
