Gold Deposits in Odisha: One Block Up for Auction, More Searches in Keonjhar

Bhubaneswar: Gold has been discovered in two districts of Odisha—Deogarh and Keonjhar. The Centre plans to auction one of these gold blocks, according to Steel & Mines Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena.

Responding to a question in the Assembly by Jaleswar MLA Aswini Kumar Patra (BJD), the Minister confirmed that gold deposits were identified in the Adas area of Deogarh district and the Gopur region of Keonjhar district.

The Geological Survey of India (GSI) conducted an advanced-level (G-2) exploration in Adas, revealing not just gold but also nickel, silver, graphite, and copper. Since nickel and graphite are considered critical minerals, the Ministry of Mines has decided to auction this block.

In Keonjhar, an initial (G-3) level survey was completed in the Gopur area. Currently, a more detailed (G-2) investigation is underway in the Jaladihi region as part of the 2024-25 exploration plan. The next steps will depend on the recommendations of a technical committee after the final report is submitted by the investigating agencies, the Minister added.
