A former MBA student of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) has come forward with serious allegations against the university, claiming she was harassed during the placement process. The student has taken legal action by filing a complaint with the Commissionerate Police.
Her accusations bring renewed scrutiny to KIIT, which is already under fire following the tragic death of a Nepali student and allegations of mistreatment of international students by university staff.
Allegations of Harassment and Lack of Transparency
The ex-student, who graduated in 2022, claims that despite the university’s active placement cell, the process lacks transparency. She alleges that instead of assisting her, university officials, including the placement cell members and the vice-chancellor, subjected her to harassment.
“I informed them that I had taken an education loan and needed support in securing a job, but instead of helping, they harassed me. I even reported cases of sexual harassment by placement officials and provided evidence, but the authorities did nothing,” she said.
According to her, the head of the placement cell (management) was particularly hostile and misbehaved with her, making the situation even worse.
Mental Harassment and Lack of Support from Authorities
She further claims that she and her father approached KIIT founder Achyuta Samanta and other officials, seeking help with placement. They were assured that the matter would be addressed, but no action was taken.
“The director and other officials ignored my complaints and subjected me to mental harassment, especially in the days leading up to the Nepali student’s death. I was so distressed that I went back to KIIT to return my original degree,” she added.
Teachers Accused of Intimidation
The former student also criticized the teaching staff, claiming they are not supportive of students.
“They lure students with false promises. KIIT is not an educational institution, but a business hub. Teachers even threaten students by saying they won’t get placed if they raise their voices,” she alleged.
Frustrated with the lack of response, she reached out to various authorities, including the Commissionerate Police, the Ministry of Higher Education, and the Chief Minister’s Office, seeking justice.
No Response from KIIT
Despite the serious allegations, KIIT authorities have yet to respond or address the complaints raised by the former student.
As the controversy grows, the university faces increasing pressure to clarify its stance on these issues and ensure a fair and safe environment for its students.
Management should take steps to redress the student ‘s placement matter very seriously. They do atleast to save their name in the public domain. They themselves not to damage their goodwill they created for their university.
