Odisha Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati has demanded the arrest of KIIT University founder and former BJD MP Achyuta Samanta. He has also called for a judicial inquiry into the ongoing controversy surrounding the university, which has come under scrutiny following the tragic death of a Nepali student and the subsequent unrest on campus.
Speaking during an adjournment motion in the Odisha Assembly on Friday, Bahinipati expressed strong concerns over the issue, warning that he would stage protests if a judicial probe is not initiated.
“Why No Action Against Achyuta Samanta?”
The Congress MLA questioned why no action had been taken against Achyuta Samanta despite the serious allegations. “Why has no action been taken against him so far?” he asked, emphasizing the need for accountability. He also demanded the arrest of a woman accused of misconduct in the case.
Calls for Transparency and Investigation
Bahinipati has urged authorities to thoroughly examine CCTV footage related to the case and has raised concerns about the employment of relatives of IAS and IPS officers at KIIT University. He questioned whether nepotism played a role in shielding the university from scrutiny.
Additionally, he criticized the university’s decision to impose a sine die (indefinite suspension) exclusively for Nepali students, calling it discriminatory.
As of now, neither KIIT University nor Achyuta Samanta has responded to the allegations or the demands made by the Congress MLA.
