After concerns surfaced regarding the possible removal of certain languages, including Punjabi, from the Class 10 board exams, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has stepped in to set the record straight. The board has assured students, parents, and educators that all currently available languages will continue to be offered in the 2025-26 academic session.
The confusion arose when CBSE released a draft date sheet that listed some languages but didn’t explicitly confirm their inclusion. This led to speculation that certain regional and foreign languages might be discontinued. However, CBSE has now clarified that the list was only a tentative reference and not a finalized selection.
In an official statement, CBSE confirmed that all existing language options—including Punjabi, Russian, Nepali, Limboo, Lepcha, Sindhi, Malayalam, Odia, Assamese, Kannada, Kokborok, Telugu, Arabic, and Persian—will remain unchanged for the next academic session. The clarification was issued as an addendum to the board’s draft policy on conducting two board exams for Class 10 students, which was posted on its website on February 25, 2025.
CBSE’s decision aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims to make board exams more student-friendly by allowing them to be held twice a year. This change is intended to reduce stress and give students more chances to improve their scores.
For now, students can rest assured that they’ll have the same language options available for their Class 10 board exams as before.
