Advanced AI cameras are soon coming to the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar to boost security against crime and traffic violations. Twin City Police Commissioner S Debadatta Singh announced on Monday that these smart cameras will play a key role in keeping the cities safer.
Enhanced Surveillance with AI
The new AI-powered cameras are designed to detect criminal activities and catch traffic offenders more efficiently. With the rapid urban growth in these cities, using technology like facial recognition will help the police quickly identify and take action against lawbreakers.
A Comprehensive Security Upgrade
In addition to installing these advanced cameras, the police plan to expand the overall surveillance network. This includes adding more CCTV cameras and increasing the number of security personnel to ensure thorough coverage.
For example, Bhubaneswar—already known as a smart city—has about 1,000 CCTV cameras installed at major junctions. However, as the population grows, even these measures are no longer sufficient. The new AI cameras will fill in the gaps and enhance the existing system, leading to more effective law enforcement and improved public safety.
Focusing on Vulnerable Areas
The decision on where to install the AI cameras was made after careful assessment by local police stations. They looked at areas with poor visibility or “shadow areas,” especially from a traffic perspective, and considered suggestions from community members. This strategic placement comes in response to a rise in burglaries and other crimes, emphasizing the need for better surveillance.
Improving Apartment Security
The police have also urged apartment complexes to install and maintain their own CCTV systems. While many have already set up cameras, some are not functioning properly. It is now up to the apartment management to ensure that all security equipment is in working order.
